Music

Patrick McAvoy is excited to join the faculty at Abbotts Hill Elementary School in Johns Creek, GA. He brings a wealth of experience from his time at Dunwoody Springs Elementary, where he served from 2006 to 2025 as a music teacher and administrator. His teaching experience spans elementary, middle school, high school, and university levels.
Originally from Boston, Patrick moved to Georgia in 2001 to pursue graduate studies in Music Education at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music. As a graduate assistant, he toured as a trumpet player with the Columbus Brass Quintet, further developing his skills as both an educator and performer.
Over the years, his students have achieved notable success and meaningful performing opportunities. Elementary students have performed for the mayor, performed with family members of Bob Marley’s band, participated in unique cross-disciplinary collaborations, and presented seasonal/holiday chorus performances. Older students have been selected for district and all-state bands, several have gone on to become music educators, and two have earned performance positions in U.S. military bands.
In addition to his work in education, Patrick is an active professional trumpet player. He has performed with the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra since 2006 and continues to appear regularly with ensembles throughout the Atlanta metropolitan region.
His education includes:
· Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance, Boston University
· Master’s degree in music education, Columbus State University
· Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, Columbus State University
